Mateo Silos Ribas is the Founder of Silos Economics and leads the firm.
He has more than 15 years of experience in the areas of competition and regulation. He combines expertise in these fields with innovative thinking to help clients address complex economic problems and achieve their goals.
He has held leading economic expert roles in competition authorities and regulators both in the United Kingdom and Spain, including the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the Water Services Regulation Authority (Ofwat) and the Spanish Competition and Markets Commission (CNMC). He has been a member of the UK Civil Service and the UK Government Economic Service. He has also worked in economic consultancy and academic research.
He has extensive experience applying the tools of economics, industrial organization and quantitative methods in competition and regulation. He has substantial experience leading the economic analysis in competition cases, mergers and market studies, as well as in economic regulation - particularly in regulatory reform, competition in regulated industries, and price reviews. He has broad industry experience, having worked across a wide range of sectors including financial services, water, energy, postal services, rail, intellectual property, and urban transport.
He holds a Master’s degree in Economics and Bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Philosophy. He regularly delivers lectures and talks at universities, competition authorities and regulators on different topics in the area of competition and regulation, such as competition and regulatory economics, quantitative methods in regulation and antitrust, antitrust damages, competition advocacy and pro-competitive reform.
He founded Silos Economics in 2025.
